What is an Employer Group Waiver Plan (EGWP)?

EGWP’s or Employer Group Waiver Plans are Medicare Advantage plans offered by employers or unions to their retirees. The plans are provided and managed by private insurance companies. These plans are exempt from certain rules that apply to individual Medicare Advantage plans which allow employers more flexibility with enrollment periods, premiums and marketing. Employer groups also have flexibility to offer benefits and services beyond what traditional Medicare Advantage plans offer, like coverage through the Part D gap also called the “donut hole.”

Employer Group Medicare Plans

Employer groups can support their retirees and eligible employees once they become Medicare primary with group Medicare plans. The baby-boom generation makes up about 25% of the workforce, so many employers have employees nearing retirement. Navigating retirement healthcare options can be confusing, but we help make it easy with group Medicare plans. These plans can be offered at no cost to employers and can even help employers save money. We offer Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and Stand-alone Part D plans to employer groups (plan offerings vary by service area)

Group Medicare Plans

Retirees with Medicare Parts A and B are eligible for group Medicare coverage. Employer groups with fewer than 20 total employees, active employees ages 65 and over might also be eligible. Underwriting isn’t required.
